Cocaine base is a solid at room temperature. You can dissolve it in non-polar solvent, but you can dissolve the hcl in water. The base is predtty sensitive. It melts slightly lower than water boils, so 200f is the high end of it's temperature range and HCL melts at 400c so it doesn't really melt. Base cocaine has a short shelf life. Unless there is a specific reason, cocaine hcl is easier to handle, more robust, weighs 9% more and other things, which make it generally the better choice for shipping
