Mushrooms containing psilocybin are available fresh or dried and have long, slender stems topped by caps with dark gills on the underside. Fresh mushrooms have white or whitish-gray stems; the caps are dark brown around the edges and light brown or white in the center. Dried mushrooms are usually rusty brown with isolated areas of white.
One of the oldest psychedelics known to the world. The age of the cave paintings of rituals in which "hallucinogenic" mushrooms were used has 6500-9000 years.
There are several genera of psilocin or psilocybin containing mushrooms known in nature. We will look at the genus Psilocybe, in particular Psilocybe Cubensis. As the most massive, easily grown, and therefore commercially available species.

BACKGROUND AND HISTORY.
Magic mushrooms, Psilocybin (4-phosphoryloxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine) and psilocin are chemical compounds obtained from certain types of dried or fresh hallucinogenic magic mushrooms found in Mexico, South America and the southern and northwest regions of the United States. Psilocybin is classified as an indole-alkylamine (tryptamine). These compounds have similar structure to lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), and are abused for their hallucinogenic and euphoric effects to produce a “trip”. Hallucinogenic (psychedelic) effects are probably due to action on central nervous system serotonin (5-HT) receptors.
Psilocybin (4-phosphoryloxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine) is a substituted indolealkylamine and belongs to the group of hallucinogenic tryptamines. Psilocybin was isolated from Central American mushrooms (Psilocybe mexicana) by the renowned Swiss chemist Albert Hofmann in 1957, and in 1958 was produced synthetically for the first time. It has been found in many species of mushrooms worldwide. There are over 180 species of magic mushrooms that contain the chemicals psilocybin or psilocin. Like the peyote (mescaline), hallucinogenic mushrooms have been used in native or religious rites for centuries. Both psilocybin and psilocin can also be produced synthetically in the lab. There have been reports that psilocybin bought on the streets can actually be other species of mushrooms laced with LSD.

Darkmarket and street slang: Magic mushrooms, Shrooms, Mushrooms
Pharmacy used/Recreational: can be sold like candies and chocolate in some countries with legal status of magic mushrooms
PHARMACODYNAMICS AND NEUROCHEMISTRY.
Psilocybin converts to psilocin in the intestine under certain conditions. After oral administration (on an empty stomach), psilocybin is detectable in significant amounts in the plasma within 20–40 minutes. Psilocybin and psilocin have a structure similar to the neurotransmitter serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine), a biologically active substance that transmits an impulse through the synaptic space between neurons. Psilocybin interacts mainly with serotonergic neurotransmission (5-HT1A, 5-HT1D, 5-HT2A and 5-HT2C receptor subtypes). However, replacing serotonin with psilocybin cannot explain all the effects. There is a noticeable effect on norepinephrine receptors at high dosage.

Hypothesis generated during of recent human studies with psilocybin assumed that alterations of different feedback-loops between cortex and thalamus are responsible for an “opening of the thalamic filter for sensory input” as the cause of the psilocybin induced frontal hyperfrontality. The evidence reviewed suggests psilocybin to exhibit low toxicity and may be seen as physiologically well tolerated. However, most studies are old and do not meet contemporary standards for safety studies. In particular, properly conducted safety pharmacology studies are lacking. Complications may result mainly from its psychotomimetic effects in vulnerable individuals, especially under uncontrolled conditions.
Psilocin/ psilocybin, alkaloids of the tryptamine family, are low in toxicity. Psilocybin has a high "therapeutic index", i.e. relatively small doses are required to obtain the "desired" effects. Toxic doses are almost impossible to use in a "natural form". In animal experiments, LD50 (the dose at which 50%) died was 150-300 mg / kg. Applicable to humans - this is from 10 to 40 kg of "raw" mushrooms. In all known incidents, the main cause of death was accidents that occurred in a state of drug intoxication or manifestations of latent mental disorders.
MAIN PHYSICAL EFFECTS.
Psilocybin effects are similar to those of other hallucinogens, such as mescaline from peyote or LSD. The psychological reaction to psilocybin use include visual and auditory hallucinations and an inability to discern fantasy from reality. Panic reactions and psychosis also may occur, particularly if large doses of psilocybin are ingested.

TRIP DURATION:
ORAL.
Total Duration - 4 - 7 hrs;
Onset - 15 - 60 mins;
Coming Up - 15 - 30 mins;
Plateau - 2 - 4 hrs;
Coming Down - 1 - 3 hrs;
After Effects - 0 - 6 hrs;
Hangover / Day After - - -

DOSAGE AND METHODS OF USE:
Dosage (indicated for dried mushrooms P. cubensis, for raw fresh mushrooms need to multiply by ~10

  • Light 1-2 grams (for beginners)
  • Medium 2-4 grams (optimal dosage for most people)
  • High 4+ grams (recommended for experienced, self-confident people. strong, intense trip, expressed experiences, ego-loss, deep "psychedelic experience")
"Neo-Classic".
Pour dry powder with boiling water (the "destruction" of psilocybin in hot water is a myth), let it brew until cooled, the solution will acquire a bluish tint, this is normal. Drink the resulting "porridge". (some use only filtered infusion).

"Method with Lemon Juice".
Despite some assumptions about this process from the point of view of chemistry, in my opinion this is nonsense. This method is more used to "cluggle" not the most pleasant taste. The described enhancement of effects is probably a placebo. But I'm not going to say that's unequivocally the case. You can take 150 ml of warm water + 50-100 ml of lemon juice, add ground mushrooms. Then let it brew for 20 minutes, periodically vigorously stirring / shaking. Take filtered liquid or as it is.

"Pain and Suffering".
This is one of the most correct and "natural" methods, with its specific "aura" and action.
We will need:
• Mushrooms fresh or dried, the main requirement is whole
• Willpower and the ability to "suppress vomiting", a napkin or a handkerchief to wipe away tears running after swallowing each new portion of mushrooms
Break or bite off pieces of mushrooms, wash down with clean water. The size of the pieces should be such that you can safely swallow them. The main rule is not to allow chewing. Why? Try to understand after several times of use;)
Combination with other drugs: Mushrooms are self-sufficient. Combining them with other substances is a sign of "bad taste". The only acceptable exception could be marijuana. it pretty well "smooths" the entrance to the trip in small doses. Smoking on the "recession" is also permissible. Good for loners diving "deeper". For a moderate trip with a loved one/people are not very suitable. After smoking marijuana "at the peak", the action of mushrooms on the contrary becomes easier / returns to reality. It's very individual. Even with marijuana, you have to be careful if you don't particularly have experience with psychedelics.

The combination of marijuana with psilocybin mushrooms can increase the risks of such a perceptual disorder as HPPD.

The combination of which should be avoided:
• Antidepressants (SSRIs, TCAs, especially MIAOIs, regardless of reversibility-selectivity!);
• Psychostimulants/euphoretics. (possible exception to which there are still questions: MDMA and mephedrone);
• Alcohol (in high doses).
Possible to combination:
• MDMA;
• Other psychedelics (exception: 25-Nbome);
• Dissociatives;
• Opiates.
Tolerance is extremely high, so the recommended break is at least 2-4 weeks to achieve the same effects.

General recommendations :

  • Do not use psychedelics with unfamiliar people, in a large company, as well as those with whom you are unpleasantly be in contact;
  • You should not have any activities scheduled on the day of use;
  • Choose your setting and time. The ideal option is in nature, away from any people who might be bothering you. Do not forget to prepare firewood and camping in advance. Running at night forest "collecting firewood" under a good dose of mushrooms is not the best idea. The time of day depends on your preferences. "Trip" in the daytime - is more colorful and "visual". Deeper, mystical and religious experience prevails at night. Think ahead about what you might need. Make a "playlist". Prepare things that you may be interested in (notebook, voice recorder, full set of drawing.);
  • Disconnect phones/social. No one should bother you!
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR INTOXICATION WITH PSYLOCYBIN MUSHROOMS
Intoxication with hallucinogenic mushrooms does not have a destructive effect to biological organism.
Risks:
  • Bad "trip" (paranoia, delirium, anxiety);
  • Activation of hidden mental states;
  • Physical trauma to the body in a state of altered consciousness.
Symptoms:
  • panic attack;
  • paranoia;
  • psychosis;
  • repeated vomiting;
  • Impaired coordination;
  • muscle weakness;
  • intense hallucinations;
  • feeling of loss self-control.

FIRST AID .
  • Do not leave the user unattended;
  • Сontrol of emotional status;
  • Provide horizontal position and airflow;
  • Try to switch the user's anxious thoughts using the dialog;
  • If more than 1.5 hours after consumption have not passed, then you can induce vomiting and cleanse the stomach;
  • Сontact a specialist of the local emergency service;
  • Any bad trip tends to end. There are no objective reasons to worry about your physical health.
Drug treatment: Sedatives / tranquilizers:
  • Alprazolam - 1 mg - "Xanax XR", "Xanor", "Alprox", "Niravam", "Fontin"
  • Diazepam 5 - 10 mg - "Diazemuls", "Diapam", "Ripid", "Relium", "Stesolid", "Apaurin"
Try to focus on positive thoughts, change the situation, do reset and maintain a conversation with the sitter. It's just a psychedelic trip that you complicate with a chaotic stream of thoughts with false conclusions about your condition.
