Hello,

I tried to distill bitter almond oil using Nile's video as a guide (link below), and couldn't recreate it as I think I used a different variant of oil.

Nile's video -

His oil is white/clear and seemed runnier in consistency while the oil I bought is light yellow and is thicker, about the consistency of mineral oil. I but it into a boiling flask and tried to distill it but when it began to boil, it became very voilent at around 130 degrees C and started to spit up the distillation column. Does anyone know where to buy bitter almond oil like the one in Nile's video? (I am in the US).

This is the oil i bought (you can see in the pic it is yellow like vegetable oil) - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/304011287795

In the meantime I have decided to syth. benzaldehyde using the Benzyl Alcohol and nitric acid method as it seems easy and high yield. Also, any thoughts about distilling from almond extract? It is less oilly in texture and I think it would distill less violently.

Any input appreciated, thanks.
