All calculations for 1 kilogram of 4-Methylpropiophenone.
All reagents are extremely cooled.
Toluene (657)grams is added to the flask in an ice bath , aluminum chloride(1043) grams, mixed for 10 minutes, then propionyl chloride (700)grams is dug in using a dividing funnelgram 40 minutes.
After digging in , the reaction mass is removed from the ice bath and remains at room temperature for 1 hour to mix .
We prepare a mixture of ice in a laboratory beaker (3700)grams and (142)grams of 36% hydrochloric acid.
As a result, we have 2 layers divided on the dividing funnel we need the bottom one .
By distillation , we drive away excess toluene at a temperature of 110 degrees . we change the receiver flask to a clean vessel, connect the vacuum pump and drive away our pure 4-Methylpropiophenone.
PS: I do not pretend to 100 percent reliability and correctness of this method. I am not a specialist in chemistry myself, but due to the lack of other methods, I use this recipe. The method has been tested in practice, the result is the product we need.
I will be glad to have an alternative synthesis from professionals
