I'm not a chemist. Looks to me like the ethyl substituant replaces the bromine at the alpha position of the hydrocarbon chain, giving you that thing hanging out the bottom. It's an ethyl. Someone correct tuf I'm wrong. If I am right, then no

EA doesn't work as you said. It's just a solvent and don't play such role in the reaction.

I use the petroleum ether but it works not good.All the a-pvp can't crystallize using HCl.
