Super basic question, but I know one can use lead acetate instead of acetic anhyydride for phenylacetic acid to p2p.

I was under the impression that was due to lead acetate producing AA when heated?

If this is the case, could you just heat and distill it off?

Low quality post, I know but I have to know, asking here then digging into it on my own.

I known it can be made from dissulfur dichloride, or sulfur dichloride, I forget but I'm just curious

Hi Katty Korner,
S2Cl2 or SCl2 are used to make thionyl chloride, I think.

I would like to find the method for acetic anhydride from lead acetate. I'll find it and see if I can post it.

Sciebcemadness says AA can be made similarly to using acetyl chloride and sodium acetate, but you can substitute sulfur di/monochloride. There used to be a picture guide sort of thing over on that forum, see if I can find it.

I'm just wondering about lead acetate because acetic acid is cheap and easy to get, litharge is easy to get, so making lead acetate is also easy. Then just heat, and maybe one can recycle the lead by throwing in more acetic acid, idk.
