Hallo All, I have questions and thank you in advance for your help. Where can I get dry acetone or how to make it waterless? Sulfuric acid what percentage %, where can I get it? Or can it be substituted with other acid? Why IPA? It stinks terribly and takes a very long time to evaporate. Thanks

I don't know where you live but in the USA they sell 100% acetone at every dollar store grocery store or supermarket. Being 100% acetone it is dry. Full strength "concentrated" sulphuric acid is 98.3% I believe. 18.4 mol . When you are making an acid the "recipe" is based on that. Find it at industrial suppliers chemical suppliers, on line or you can purify drain cleaner via a number of ways. It is often 90%. Why IPA depends on what you are doing. Often times the reason is it can be bought or easily made 100% purity

In America you can buy acetone under paint section in any hardware store. (outside America in your local paint or mechanic shop).
To make it dry you need to distill it with some drying agent like caso4. (boiling point 56 C)
H2SO4 again under hardware store you will be able to buy 35-63% and then concentrate it. (other mineral acids are possible but depends on your synthesis).
IPA dosen't take long to evaporate (if dry), if you think IPA stinks you should just leave chemistry. (use a fkn fume hood or in remote open vent).

don't be dumb and die. take some video lectures from Chemplayer or there are 1000s of video in youtube and read few organic chemistry lab manual.

You are in the United States? If course everything you said is not untrue. Is there a benefit to buying paint thinner acetone and drying it over buying 100% acetone fingernail polish remover? Same question with sulfuric acid. Unless you buy it from Grainger Grizzly some other industrial suppliers or chem suppliers it may need concentrated ( often times not depending on what mol strength you need) is there any advantage to starting with a less concentrated form? Isopropanol usually does need drying, but you can salt it out, which is super easy. I'm asking because I want to use the best products available and maybe I'm currently not

what's you point here by tagging me.
  1. you don't buy liters of nail polish remover and it's pretty expensive (it's not 100% either) compared to hardware store one can be bought in bulk and is pretty cheap.
  2. no one is going to sell you 99.3% H2SO4 and if someone is make a proper distance from them. there aren't much applications for that concentration. and even in drug synthesis you don't need that
Don't waste time by forcefully writing replies. work on proper quality replies not just BS.

Buying completely dry acetone is about as silly as buying absolute ethanol. Even if you do find some its still hygroscopic anyway so it will stay that way until you open it only
