Question 2 Questions on 2,5 dimethoxynitrostyrene reduction via aluminum amalgam. Experienced persons only.

The difference between these two methodologies is that in the first link the nitrostyrene, solvents and mercury salt are combined together and then the aluminum foil is added to that solution. The second method involves treating the aluminum foil with a solution of mercury nitrate or other mercury salt, decanting the solution and then pouring the nitrostyrene into the container hold the treated aluminum foil. Which of these two methods has the superior yield out of curiosity or is it equivalent.
Second question that is likely obvious, If I add glacial acetic acid to an isopropanol solution of 2CH freebase will I get 2CH acetate salt when I boil off the alcohol solvent completely?

The first method is considered dirtier and gives less yield.
I know two forms of 2CH: free base and hydrochloride. But some phenethylamines can be obtained as acetate. If you want to try, don't be afraid to mess anything up, with a portion of an alkaline solution you will return the amine to the free base form.
