4-MTA, also known as 4-methylthioamphetamine, is an amphetamine (obviously) -- the methylthio derivative of amphetamine.
All I know is that it can be made from 4-methylthiophenylacetone and the Leuckart reaction:
049bAVWeYg

Which raises two questions for me:
1. How is the leuckart reaction carried out here? Could ammonium formate be used?
2. How would one prepare the precursor? Can you just do something like:
  • methyl(phenyl)sulfane (benzyl methyl sulfane) is reacted with chloroacetone
or is this not feasable whatsoever/a different method
