Title says it all, but for elaboration: post steam distillation, can i drain the aqueous layer and just gas the fb? if so, should i dry the fb first? Also, IF drying IS called for, would MgSo4 be a bad drying agent?(ive heard its slightly acidic...)

Yes, you can drain the aqueous layer after steam distillation. Drying the freebase first is recommended to remove any remaining water this can be done with MgSO4(anhydrous) .

Honestly I don't know, I don't have much experice with methamphetamine but once acidified I believe you should filter it and get a powder that you further recrystalize to obtain bigger crystals.
