It is the second part of manuals «home drug tests». You learned how to determinate admixtures here (Determination of impurity in synthetic PAS), now you will learn what you have to do, if you think that you have got substituted drug, or you have a suspicion that your stuff doesn't consist of psychoactive substances.
Firstly, you have to buy drug test kit for checking narcotics and their metabolites in urine. Drug testing kits and how they work are described here (link).
Put 50-100 mg of the sample into a glass, pure 100 ml water and mix until the sample is dissolved (1-2 min). If you do not have an accurate scale, you can take the sample with a teaspoon, this is about the tip of the spoon. Immerse test strips in solution and waiting until liquid ups completely. You must interpret test results. Two lines mean negative result, one line mean positive result, not have any lines mean failed test (repeat test).
Interpretation of the results:
AMP — Amphetamine. This test is positive for amphetamine and all phenylalkylamines, except methoxy-substituted ring protons.
BAR — Barbiturate. This test gives a positive result for barbituric acid derivatives only.
BZO — Benzodiazepine. This test gives a positive result for benzodiazepine and derivatives.
COC — Cocaine. This test gives a positive result for cocaine, ecgonine and codeine.
THC — Marijuana. This test gives a positive result for natural or synthetic cannabinoids.
MTD — Methadone.
mAMP — Methamphetamine. This test is positive for methamphetamine and all phenylalkylamines (include mephedrone and derivatives), except for methoxy-substituted ring protons.
OPI — Opiate. This test gives a positive result for opiates, include syntetic methadone and phentanile. Codeine will be shown also.
PCP — Phencyclidine. Also, this test gives a positive result for pyrrolidine derivatives. In particular a-PVP.
TCA — Tricyclic antidepressants.
MDMA — Ecstasy. This test is positive for ecstasy tablet, MDMA, MDA, MDPV.
FYL - Fentanyl.
MAM - Heroin.
Thus, if you know structural formula of substances and compare test results with organoleptic properties, you can define formula of your sample quite accuracy.

- For instance, you are testing amphetamine and getting positive result of AMP and PCP. It means that your amphetamine was admixtured by a-PVP.
- Another example. Your test shown positive result for PCP and MDMA. It means that you have Methylenedioxypyrovalerone (MDPV).
- Third example. Your test shows positive result for mAMP. It means that you have methamphetamine or mephedrone.
Unfortunately, the test have the same reaction for methamphetamine and cathinones. The following tips will help you identify methamphetamine and cathinones in your sample.
Dissolve the sample in water, pour in ½ volume of an aqueous alkaline solution (20-30% NaOH/KOH or concentrated aq. NaHCO3).
Add 2-3 drops of iodine alcohol solution.
If the solution consists of cathinone (substances with a ketone and amino group in the structure of the molecule), the solution will be partially discolored. The solution will be divided into layers, in the lowest cloudy layer you can see yellowish crystals (organic iodine compounds).
If the solution consists of methamphetamine, the solution will not separate into layers, and the entire volume will be evenly colored to a cloudy yellow-white color.
I can't describe all variety of test combinations and predict all psychoactive substances in one article. In any case, this method very useful and can help you to figure out composition of the sample.
