One of the most effective methods of identifying drug labs is the controlled delivery of precursors. In order to accomplish this, law enforcement agencies do not have to cooperate directly with reagent suppliers. GPS beacons can be installed at customs offices, bonded warehouses, transfer points and any other possible locations.
In addition, GPS beacons can be placed on the vehicles of persons who, according to law enforcement authorities, may be involved in drug production/distribution. GPS beacons may be built into laboratory equipment.
This list of law enforcement use of beacons is not exhaustive.
Below are some examples of how the beacons are camouflaged:
Methods to be used in order to protect the laboratory from being tracked:
It is necessary to have staging posts and a team of people who will work there, but will not know where the lab is.
The lab team must know where the staging areas are and be able to monitor them remotely. (Video surveillance or real counter-surveillance)
Ideally, have a separate team of people who will be responsible for securing the logistics from the staging area to the lab.
1. Never order precursors directly to the lab. Use an intermediate link (garage/temporary warehouse/any other secure location).
2. equip this place with GPS signal jammers.
3. Examine incoming items and objects carefully and in detail. Make sure no tracking devices are present.
4. If you find tracking devices, the shipment of precursors/equipment should not be sent further to the laboratory, it could be dangerous. Also, you will no longer be allowed to use that transshipment facility and it is advisable to suspend the team that detected the tracking.
5. If the shipment has been successfully checked, the laboratory team should equip the vehicle for further transportation with GPS signal jammers. Carry out loading and delivery of equipment and reagents to the laboratory. The team working in the transshipment points must not overlap with the team working in the laboratory.
IMPORTANT: The laboratory must be equipped first of all with GPS jamming devices.
How to check if the GPS jammer works properly?
Simply turn on the jammer and check the signal level on your smartphone, it must be faulty. Remember that all the jammers have a different range, for one lab you need 3-5 quality jammers (or more, depending on the size of the lab).
