Hello everyone, I am new to the study of barbiturates and wanted to know if starting from Phenobarbital tablets it is possible to synthesize some solution of Pentobarbital sodium, all I have here in the region is this compound, and making it from scratch is a job for which at the moment I do not have the appropriate equipment.
It is possible to synthesize Pentobarbital Sodium from Phenobarbital pills?

Yes it looks pretty easy, but tell me, why go through that trouble? They are both barbiturates and really the only difference is 1 functional group
I can promise to help for I had to learn barbiturates in detail and know the effects of some which I had the chance to take, both with good and bad consequences (it is a liver enzyme inducer making all other drugs to be metabolized super fast). Pot seems to be an exception veronal (diethyl on the C2 of the malonic acid it’s made from). So you need to get into chemistry and obtain the 2 substituted dialkyl malonate which you will react with urea like on YouTube or better, I think ChemPlayer which you find on bitchute has a video on this reaction (he’s brilliant and all his videos can teach you a lot of chemistry). I have the magic to be able to make sigma orders in rather modest and clean manner. The malonic ester May not be dirrectly available but surely the 2-halogenated ones will be, and prepping what you need is simple labwise. First get to familiarize yourself with their chemistry then seek the ester on sigma-Aldrich/ Merck then get back to me. Cheers!
