Methylammonium chloride (aka methylamine HCL) vs. ammonium chloride

So I made another batch of methylamine HCL according to the original patent, mixed it wix an equimolat amount of NaOH ( equimolat to the HCL, overall 2:1:NaOh : CH³NH²hcl( potentially.added some water and heated it producing a flammable gas. The I checked my notes and realized ammonia is flammable also at 18% concentration so this test proves nothing. How can I tell if my product is methylammonium chloride or ammonium chloride?

N-butylalcohol hot dissolves MeNH2.HCl but not Ammonium Chloride. This way you separate the two. IPA works too but some Ammonium Chloride will be in the extract, the amount is negligible regarding further reactions the primary Amine being a far stronger nucleophile then Ammonia, ~20 times as strong.

Of course, by IPA. You mean methanol, right?

N-Butylalcohol for extraction of MeNH2.HCl from the mess of Ammoniumchloride and MeNH2.HCl when making it from formaldehyde/hexamine/HCl. MeOH and EtOH do not work well but IPA is just ok.

For the reaction itself either water or ethanol and HCl can be used, thats all over the place, sciencemadness or Lambdasyn - look there.

What am I distilling the methanol out of windshield washer fluid for? To clean the homemade chloroform? It has been so long since I read it that I forget. I also have encephalopathy. And I haven't slept in 40 hours
