First of all, I would like to thank William Dampier and everyone who made this promotion possible!
My first attempt at amphetamines
First I make a saturted sodium hydroxide solution and set it aside to cool down.
Then I tore 12g of aluminium foil into small pieces and put them into a 2 liter round bottom-flask.
I put 100ml IPA, 50ml H2O and 10g P2NP into a beaker and dissolved the P2NP completely while stirring constantly and using low heat.
I added enough H2O to the round bottom flask until the entire foil was covered with water.
I added 0.1g Hg(II) and mixed everything well.
After about 10-15 minutes, when the amalgam is ready, the water turned into a rich gray colour and the foil lost its shine.
I drained the water into a waste container, rinsed the foil a second time with water and drained it.
I took the previously prepared rm, heated it until the P2NP dissolved and added 50ml GAA.
I filled the rm into the round bottom flask, which caused a violent exothermic reaction. I cooled the flask with cold water and also used a reflux condenser to regulate the expansion of the rm.
After rm had calmed down (it remained in the lower piston area without any external influence), it was left to stand at room temperatur for about 30 minutes.
I think I waited a little too long to drain the water from the round bottom flask on my first attempt. In any case, the rm reacted only weakly and rather hesitantly with the foil.
After the reaction was stopped, I added the NaOH-solution to PH 11. Two layers formed, which were initally more orange or pinkish and then became dark.
I decided to start over again.
On the second run the result looked much better.
I separated the top, light layer, the bottom went to trash.
The decanted upper layer is brought to PH 6 with a sulfuric acid preperation with constant stirring.
Rm went into freezer for an hour. The PH value was then carefully brought to 5.5. Rm went into freezer again.
I washed it twice using acetone and a piece of fabric and laid it out to dry.
