Can someone explain to me please why one mixes 1:10 sulphuric acid in acetone or IPA? Thanks

Because you need to dilute the acid to a molar ratio and that is the ratio. Undiluted sulphuric acid is very strong and would completely destroy most chemicals it touched.

It could matter in simply one being a better solvent for your particular needs, which I don't know are you protecting a carbonyl?.are you .... needing a sugar?Add acid to solvent not solvent to acid
