Question H2SO4 in acetone - is it safe to use?

How safe is 15-20% H2SO4 in acetone solution? Theoretically, under specific conditions, H2SO4 can acidify acetone. But how fast is this process? Is such acid form safe and stable to be used within 24-48 hours?

How safe? Under 80% H²SO⁴ the acetone is absorbed without reaction, sonits as dangerous as the strength of the acid, higher concentrations cause an aldol condensation, which means, it's not sulfuric acid in acetone anymore

Yes, I know aldol condensation appears above 70% of H2SO4. So, probably, yes, this reaction is not typical for 20% solution.

Apart from aldol condensation there could be another reaction, resulting to aldehyde. But here specific conditions required.

However, some light yellowish tint appears, after being kept for 12 hours at RT. So, I'm still hesitating.

If the solution has not darkened, then you can use it.

Well, yes, I was too self-confident when I thought that everything was anhydrous there. A little magnesia showed about 5% water in the solution.
