Only got methylamine hcl.

Would this work, methylamine hcl dissolved in water then basified with NaOH, then proceed with the reaction?

Yes this is possible ,but I use methylamine 40%water

Performed the procedure at 1/10th scale.
Skipped ethyl acetate extractions from aqueous layer (ethyl acetate still restocking)
Separatory funnel pic, I assume the white particulates are NaCl formed as a byproduct after freebasing methylamine hcl with sodium hydroxide
DCM was never evaporated although washed with water 3 times, proceeded straight to addition of HCl without acetone
Crude crystals weighed 15 gr total (pic is only some part of the liquid as part of it kept for backup in case lack of acetone causes some problem)
Crude crystals were then crushed and recrystallized with methanol, 1 hr RT then 2 hr freezer then filtered.
Resulted in white powder, doing a melting point test tomorrow to rule out whether it is NaCl and the powder is from the expedited recrystallization

these quartz where batches made to reach maximum purity with several washes of the free base until it is completely transparent using H2O and sodium bicarbonate.

but in the recrystallization phase it was never so thick in the process, the HCl salt always dissolved perfectly in acetone and water, leaving it completely transparent and not so thick... maybe you recrystallize the product in another way,... but why is the recrystallization mixture so thick and white???..
