Nedaudz vienkāršāks metilamīna iegūšanas variants būtu nitrometāna CH3NO2 reducēšana līdz metilamīnam CH3NH2, izmantojot Al/Hg amalgamu.

CH3NO2 + H2 ---> CH3NH2+ H2O

Man šķiet, ka tam ir kāds iemesls, jo lidmašīnas modeļa degvielas izmantošana metilamīna ražošanai in vitro ir izplatīts ceļš. vai nu tas ātri sadalās, vai... tas izklausās pēc enerģētiskas reakcijas.
