This synthesis of Cocain was noted from Psychedelic Chemistry by Michael Valentine Smith (Page140-144).
<b> Preperation of 2-carbomethoxytropinone from Tropinone </b>
(1) Mixture of 1.35 g Sodium methoxide, 3.48 g Tropinone, 4 ml Dimethylcarbonate and 10 ml Toluene.
(2) Reflux ½ hour, cool to 0° and add 15 ml water containing 2.5 g NH Cl.
(3) Extract with 4X50 ml CHCI2, dry and evaporate in vacuum and dissolve the oil in 100 ml ether.
(4) Wash two times with a mixture of 6 ml saturated aqueous Potassium carbonate and 3 ml 3N Potassium Hydroxide(dry and evaporate in vacuum the ether to recover unreacted tropinone).
(5) Take up the oil which separates in saturated aqueous NH4Cl and extract it with CHCI2.
(6) Dry and evaporate in vacuum to get an oil which is dissolved in hot acetone.
(7) Cool, add a little water and rub to start precipitation of 1.5 g 2-carbomethoxytropinone.
<b> Preperation of Methylecgonine from 2-carbomethoxytropinone </b>
(1) Reflux 2-carbomethoxytropinone and NaBH4 in methanol for six hours to yield 50% Methylecgonine.
<b> Preperation of Cocaine from Methylecgonine </b>
(1) Stir and heat mixture of 4 g Methylecgonine, 36 ml Benzene, 1.6 g Sodium carbonate and 7 ml Benzoyl-Cl for ten hour at 96-100°C.
(2) Evaporate in vacuum, cool to 0° and add 40 ml ice water.
(3) Acidify with HCI to pH 5 and extract with 3X20 ml ether.
(4) Neutralize the aqueous solution with 20% NH4OH to separate an oil from which cocaine precipitates on standing.
Isn't this synthesis to produce Synthetic cocaine looks easy.? All Precursor are easily available in market and also cheap.
