Nieco prostszą opcją produkcji metyloaminy byłaby redukcja nitrometanu CH3NO2 do metyloaminy CH3NH2 za pomocą amalgamatu Al/Hg.

CH3NO2 + H2 ---> CH3NH2+ H2O
